William was raised by his mother following the divorce of his parents. Bequeathed all of his worldly goods to St Maxentius.
Announces during a legislative session that conflicts should be settled legally and not by weapons. As a result he is militarily unsuccessful and looses to the rebel Count Boso of la Marche. In 1006 the possesions gained by Fulk of Anjou and William Anglouleme are lost to the Vikings. He is however, able to maintain good diplomatic relations with Emperor Henry II.
According to an extensive letter campaign to between himself an various invested individuals it becomes evident that in 1024, he was offered the throne of Italy by Italian insurgents led by Manfred II of Turin; An offer which William rejected. William spent freely to build up the abbeys of Maillezais (1010) and Borgeuil, completed an annual Pilgrimage to Italy or Spain...and in 1029, retired to the closter of Maillezais.
